Sander van Servellen

Under my full name, I write songs the old-fashioned way — voice, guitar, and whatever truth I’m willing to say out loud. They come from real moments. Real questions. Real memories.

The rest belongs to whoever is listening.

A hard-edged rock track for anyone who’s ever felt lost in this world, held back by its insanity, and longing to break free. I started writing this right after the Back to the Beginning concert celebrating Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne — pure inspiration. Two weeks later, Ozzy was gone, and finishing the track hit different. His music lit the fire in me at twelve and made me pick up a guitar. The music video is created in his honor. I wrote "Just Beginning" in memory of my best friend Dion, who tragically took his own life in June 1996, while we were living together in Rotterdam. Sadly, the last words we exchanged were in anger. Our indescribably close friendship lives on in my heart and memories that at times haunt me. This song expresses the sadness and darkness of the moment, while also celebrating the beautiful ineffable mystery that is life. So, Dion, wherever you are, this song is for you.

🎙️ Vocals & Collaboration Special thanks to Taylor Ariel (STARSE3D) for writing and delivering the vocals and bringing the original version to life with her unique energy. And to Kate Glock, whose interpretation in the alternate version offers a different but equally resonant emotional lens. 🥁 Production Notes: Thank you to Chuck Sabo for the live drums, which brought this final release far beyond the demo’s electronic drums. All guitars were performed and recorded by me at Aeonica Studio, where the song was also composed and mixed. 🎧 Mastering: Final thanks to Adam Haggar of Mount Olympia, whose mastering shaped this into what is my first non-electronic production. It’s imperfect, but it’s honest.
